The Circular Economy at RIOU OCEAN GLASS

The consideration of the circular economy in the glass industry is a key priority at RIOU OCEAN GLASS. It aims to minimize end-of-life products and maximize the use of necessary resources throughout the production process and the glass lifecycle. Our teams make every effort to reduce and recycle the materials and resources required for the manufacturing of our products. Beyond being an urgent and essential measure for the preservation of our environment, it also generates economies of scale by increasing the value of our products.

Preventing and Reducing at the Source
Our teams minimize the use of virgin raw materials from our suppliers as much as possible, particularly by optimizing our manufacturing processes. The use of recycled cullet offers a significant opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions: 1 ton of cullet saves 300 kg of CO2. Similarly, 1 ton of cullet equates to 1.2 tons of raw materials, including 1 ton of sand.

Recycling and Recovering at End of Life
Glass is a 100% recyclable material, without any loss in quality. Each window can be recycled endlessly. Glass shards can even be repurposed, when necessary, to produce insulation, foam glass, or even materials for road construction.

Furthermore, recycling saves approximately 30% of energy compared to production using virgin raw materials (silica, sodium carbonate, etc.). The temperature required to melt recycled cullet is also lower than that needed for raw materials.

The use of recycled glass in construction and design is a way to extend its lifespan while preserving our resources and environment. The challenge of ensuring the durability of our products at RIOU OCEAN GLASS is one of the key goals we set when establishing ourselves in Mauritius.

We are fully committed, along with our internal teams and local partners, to developing a sustainable and increasingly eco-friendly sector within our glass industry in the Indian Ocean.
